Program Info January 16, 2025 to June 20, 2025 Designed to help adults prepare for success with writing the High School equivalency test modules. Intro to High School equivalency and Online Tools offers a positive introduction to help you learn about the High School equivalency test modules, manage your learning, develop study habits, use interactive learning tools, navigate online learning systems, develop a learning plan to help you reach your goal. Essential Skills for the 21st Century Program Info This program supports the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning's (NSSAL) E3: Education, Essential Skills , and Empowerment curriculum framework to provide essential skills programming using real life learning experiences to help develop skills in the following areas: communicate ideas and information, manage learning, and engaging with others. Community Essentials Program Info The Community Essentials Program helps adults develop essential skills for work and life in their community. Participants will engage in a positive and friendly accessible learning space to develop many essential skills including literacy skills (reading, writing), numeracy skills, using digital technology, communication skills and working with others, in addition to other essential skills such as problem solving and document use. Participants of CALA Digital Literacy Programs will build digital skills while using technology and can demonstrate their knowledge to potential employers by earning Northstar Digital Literacy certificates in the areas of:
Digital Literacy Basics Program Info This introductory program helps participants learn the basics of computing and the internet. Learn the vocabulary and gain valuable digital skills through hands-on guided practice. Home & Office Essential Computer Skills Program Info This program, delivered in 8 sessions, is designed for participants who want to improve their digital skills to use document and spreadsheet software, email, and the internet in daily life, for employment, or higher education. Through instructor-led guided practice participants will learn the basics of office productivity apps using Microsoft or Google platforms. Get Connected, Stay Connected (Age-friendly program) Program Info Get Connected, Stay Connected provides adults with the capacity to develop the confidence, knowledge, and digital skills needed to participate in the world of online communications. Participants will learn to use technology, navigate websites, use email, and discover best practices to secure personal information and stay safe online. Stay Connected: Online Safety (Age-friendly program) Past participants of Get Connected, Stay Connected are invited to join us for a maintenance and refresher program to explore new online resources and practice using the internet for home and daily life tasks with a focus on internet safety. Tutoring Hub for apprentices Program Info CALA is now home to a Tutoring Hub for Apprentices studying to become a red seal certified Electrician, Plumber, Truck & Transport Mechanic, or an Automotive Service Technician. This Tutoring Hub is staffed by qualified tradespeople who are there to help apprentices prepare to write their exams. Tutoring is held both in class and online. Register Now.
